S5/6 tracking reports have been issued to pupils today

How to have meaningful career conversations with young people – Thursday 27 January 2022

Parents and carers can learn more about the power of having meaningful careers conversations with their young person on a free webinar later this month.

Careers Advisers, Kay Hume and Mhairi Galashan, from Skills Development Scotland will talk about the key things to remember in steering career conversations. They will offer hints and tips as well as introduce parents and carers to My World of Work.

Following their online presentation, there will also be an opportunity to ask the Advisers questions to support your career conversation planning.

Senior Phase

Unfortunately, due to both the adverse weather at the beginning of the prelim window and pupil absences, a number of young people have had assessments rescheduled up to and including Tuesday 21st December.  As a result of this, study leave for all Senior Phase pupils will be extended to Tuesday 21st December 2021.  All Senior Phase pupils should now return to school on Wednesday 5th January.

Updated Prelim Arrangements

To support our young people in their Prelim preparation, please be advised that the following exams planned for tomorrow Wed 1st Dec have now been re-scheduled for Monday 20th December: N5/Higher/Advanced Higher English and Advanced Higher Biology. For N5 Practical Cookery, please see updated timetable in email for details of changes. Prelim exams will now start on Thurs 2nd of Dec with N5/Higher Maths as per original timetable. As a result, study leave will now include Mon 20th Dec with all pupils returning to school on Tues 21st Dec.

Welcome to Mearns Academy

Mearns Academy is a six year, co-educational, comprehensive school which caters for a full range of courses, subject and abilities. The school is situated in Laurencekirk and has associated Primary Schools in seven surrounding villages. The school roll has risen over recent years and now stands at 681.

The area is probably most famous for its representation in the Lewis Grassic Gibbon trilogy, A Scots Quair. His most celebrated book, Sunset Song is contained in this compilation.

Mearns Academy places great emphasis on developing the personal and social skills and abilities of its pupils, as well as providing for a quality educational experience.
