The 2019-2020 session commences for pupils on Wednesday 21st August 2019. Mon/Tues 19/20th August are In-service days.

House Captain Applications

Applications are now open for House Captains. Please complete the form – House Captain and submit by the 28th June.

Health Day – Thursday 20th June

While some staff and pupils take part in School Sports Day at Aberdeen Sports Village, pupils and staff remaining in school will take part in a number of activities relating to fitness, wellbeing and highlighting health issues including;

  • Walk at Your Place (at Your Pace) – Pupils will walk laps around the sports fields with House points being awarded for the most laps.
  • Health Quiz – Pupils will complete a quiz with questions relating to sport and health.  House points will be awarded.
  • Games Hall Activities/FitnessStaff will lead a variety of games/sports sessions.  House points will be awarded for participation, effort and enthusiasm.
  • Cinema – Pupils will watch a sport/health related film in the Theatre.

Due to the nature of some of the activities, pupils should wear sports clothing to school and bring a warm waterproof jacket for the walk.  This is a similar event to last year which was a huge success.

Welcome to Mearns Academy

Mearns Academy is a six year, co-educational, comprehensive school which caters for a full range of courses, subject and abilities. The school is situated in Laurencekirk and has associated Primary Schools in seven surrounding villages. The school roll has risen over recent years and now stands at 683.

The area is probably most famous for its representation in the Lewis Grassic Gibbon trilogy, A Scots Quair. His most celebrated book, Sunset Song is contained in this compilation.

Mearns Academy places great emphasis on developing the personal and social skills and abilities of its pupils, as well as providing for a quality educational experience.
