Scholastic Christmas Book Club

Our Scholastic Christmas Book Club is online again this year and it is open for orders from Monday 15 November.

Buy through our Scholastic Christmas Book Club and you can get your Christmas stocking fillers while doing something to benefit the school.

Go to https://schools.scholastic.co.uk/mearns-academy/digital-book-club to browse the latest books and place your order. For every £1 you spend on Book Club, our school will earn 20p in Scholastic Rewards.  Please place your order online by Sunday December 5th, 2021.  Books will be delivered to the school for collection 16 – 23 December.

Litter

We have seen an increase in the amount of litter being left around the school, especially from our S1-S3 young people.  As a school we will be speaking to the pupils about this and can we also ask all parents/carers to speak with your young person at home.  Thank you for your support.

Senior Boys Football S4-S6

Senior football sessions are back.  Tuesday afterschool every week 3.30pm-4.30pm.

Mearns Masterchef 2021

Our Mearns Masterchef is taking place on Friday 12th November.

Student Teacher

Matthew Angell joins us this week as a student teacher in our Social Subjects Faculty.  We wish Matthew well with his placement.

Christmas Dances

Currently our Christmas Dances are planned for:

S1 & S2               15th December

S3 & S4               16th December

S5 & S6               20th December

The above dates are subject to change, and we are currently working through the Covid guidance to ensure we have a number of risk reducing measures in place.  We very much want the dances to go ahead this year, however we do have to follow Government and NHS advice/guidance/restrictions.  We will continue to monitor this and keep parents/carers and pupils informed.

S4-S6 Prelims

Our in-school assessment window for S4-S6 pupils will run from Wednesday 1st December – Fri 17th December.  Mr Middleton is currently creating our Prelim timetable, and a draft copy of this will be shared with parents/carers and pupils by 16th November at the latest.  I can confirm that pupils in S4-S6 will be given study leave during the assessment window period.

Head Teacher out of school

I wanted to make all parents/carers aware that I will be out of school for a period of 2-3 weeks from next week as I undergo an operation on my ankle.  All Depute Head Teachers and our Cluster Business Manager will be available to respond to any queries in my absence.

I hope this finds everybody well and as always I thank you for your support.
