Vaping
It has been brought to our attention that some pupils in school are vaping at break/lunch either in the community or on school grounds.
Please see information below which must be followed by pupils:
WHAT IS THE LEGAL AGE TO VAPE IN THE UK
The legal vaping age in the UK is 18. You must be 18 years of age to purchase e-cigarettes or e-liquids.
Aberdeenshire Council
Aberdeenshire have a strict no smoking policy on all grounds. This includes the use of e-cigarettes. This policy applies to all staff, visitors and pupils.
Mearns Academy
If any pupil is identified to be vaping, then they will be spoken to and parents/carers will be contacted.
Any pupil found vaping on school grounds will be excluded from Mearns Academy for a period of time.
S4 Parent Evening
Our second S4 Parent Evening of the session will take place on Wednesday 2nd February. Information on how to book appointments will be issued separately.
S5 Guidance meetings with parents
S5 Guidance meetings with parents are taking place over the next few weeks. Parents have been emailed information on dates and how to book appointments.
SQA

First Signs of Spring, Photography Competition
The Art department will be running a new photography competition to welcome in the new year. House points will be awarded for all entries and extra for winners! We will also have a prize for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place. If you are interested please collect a form from Miss Geoghan or Miss Scott in the Art Department!
Pupil Council
There will be a senior pupil council meeting on Wednesday 26th January period 2.
Litter Picking
Well done and thank you to all pupils involved in litter picking both around school grounds and in the local area. This has been welcomed be members of our community.
