Reporting Child Absence from School
If your child/children are absent / to be absent from school you can let the school know by one of the following ways.
- By email, emailing mearns.aca@aberdeenshire.gov.uk with your child/children’s name, year and tutor group and the reason for absence
- By phone on 01561 400700, selecting option 1 and leaving a voicemail with the pupil(s) name, year and tutor group and reason for absence
- Through GroupCall / Xpressions by creating a new message providing details of the reason for absence
For an absence from school / class that is unexplained we will send a text to advise of your child/children’s absence from school. When you receive this text, it is helpful if you can contact the school to let us know the reason for absence from school if you have not already told us
Separately, if your child has a pre-arranged appointment that means they will be leaving from school, please ensure an adult is present to collect them unless they are in S6.

S4 and S5 Choice Window (31st Jan – 18th Feb)
Most pupils in S4 and S5 have completed their provisional choices over the last few weeks – we will send email confirmation to parents /carers over the coming days to confirm choices are correct. We appreciate that there will be still be some pupils who have yet to complete their provisional choice forms but would encourage these to come in as soon as possible.
S2 and S3 Choice Window (21st Feb – 4th March)
S2 and S3 pupils will be making their course choices over the next two weeks. Guidance staff will share provisional choice forms, give an input in PSE lessons and arrange 1:1 conversations for any pupils who require support. There is also the opportunity for parents/carers to speak to class teachers at the upcoming parent evenings should you have any subject specific questions.
