Cross Country

Well done to all pupils who took part in the House Cross Country event at the end of term.  We had a record number of pupils taking part to earn points for their House.

 

Young Musician

Young Musician of the year took place on Wednesday on the last week of term and was an extremely enjoyable evening for all.  It was great to welcome our wider community back into Mearns Academy and we look forward to holding more events going forward.  Well done to all young people and staff involved.

 

SQA Examinations

All senior pupils will now have received individual exam timetables, any queries speak to Mr Middleton. Any Additional Arrangement queries should be made with Mrs Hamilton.

 

Study Leave

Study leave will begin on Monday 25th April for all pupils in S4-S6.  We want to wish all pupils in senior school good luck with the upcoming SQA examinations.

School Uniform Update

As restrictions ease and we move into warmer weather we are now in a position to re-launch full school uniform for all pupils in S1-S6.

From study leave, Monday 25th April, the following expectations around school uniform will apply to all pupils:

S4-S6 Full school uniform expected for all SQA examinations / Full school uniform is also required when attending school during study leave for study support sessions

S1-S3 Full school uniform to be worn at all times / Pupils should bring with them a suitable change of clothes for PE lessons

Please see below our agreed school uniform:

White shirt

School tie*

Plain black sweatshirt or cardigan

Black trousers/skirt  (leggings/tracksuit bottoms are acceptable for PE but not for school uniform)

Black/brown shoes or completely black/brown trainers

*School Ties – we currently have 6 different versions of our school tie and we are in the process of streamlining and redesigning our school tie to be launched in June 2022.  At present we have only a very small number of our current school ties available.  Should a pupil need a current version of our school tie please speak with their Guidance Teacher. 

 

Please also note:

  • A suitable change of clothing is required to attend PE lessons
  • Hoodies should not be worn in classrooms, assembly etc unless permission is given by a member of staff (permission will be given during Covid 19 when windows are open)
  • If sweatshirts or cardigans have logos on them these should be small and discreet
  • Jackets may be worn to move around the school but must be removed in class and at assemblies (permission will be given during Covid 19 when windows are open)
  • Denim or denim look jackets, denim or denim-look jeans/leggings/jeggings should not be worn as school uniform

 

P7 Transition

Information will be issued this week to all Primary 7 pupils who will be joining us in August.  We look forward to meeting all of our new pupils later in the term.

 

Face Coverings

Schools are to follow the national guidance on face coverings with staff and learners still wishing to wear face coverings supported to do so. The wearing of face coverings will not be mandatory, but it will remain encouraged in indoor communal areas in line with the workplace guidance.
