Library

Set within the Community Campus, the library serves both the young people and staff of the Academy and members of the local community.

The library team work hard to meet the needs of all users. The library is a central resource with over 10,000 items including books, graphic novels, DVDs, and audiobooks.  The library service also provides free access to e-books, e-audiobooks, e-magazines and subscription databases for library members, school staff and pupils.

We have resources for all ages and reading abilities and we can request in stock that is held in other Aberdeenshire libraries.

Find out if we have what you’re looking for by searching our online library catalogue or browse our digital library.

The library is open for pupils from 8.45am before school and until 4.30pm after school, through break time and at lunch time.  Information for new pupils is online.  Up-to-date public opening hours and service times are on our Live Life Aberdeenshire libraries webpages.

The library is an integral part of school life at the Academy.  Every pupil automatically has a library account when they enrol and pupils are welcome to visit the library to borrow books, to find information, to use the computers, or to enjoy a quiet space to relax and make friends.  We have lunch-time clubs like our S1 drop-in club, Let’s Get Quiz-ical Friday fun, reading clubs and special book celebrations throughout the year.

Through partnership working with teachers and pupils spending time in their library, young people will develop lifelong learning skills, information-seeking skills, and discover a love of reading.  Pupils visit the library during class time to choose books for reading for pleasure, to find information, or to use computers.

Our Mearns Academy library website on Glow has tailored collections of study resources, research tips, and links to online sources to extend learning.  Book news and recommendations for readers feature on our Fiction Addiction pages which are updated regularly.  We welcome pupil contributions!

The library is a busy, vibrant place and with author visits, book fairs, clubs and even lunchtime concerts, there’s always something going on for young people to get involved in.
